The FILMAX Group has significantly advanced in film production the last few years under
the CASTELAO PRODUCTIONS company, created in 1999. It ranges from local Spanish films
to high level international productions and strategic alliances with other producers.
These excellent results can be attributed to the planning and efficiency of their I+D
department which generates new projects, scripts, productions and co-productions.
One of its most impressive fictional projects has been setting up of the Fantastic
Factory, an original idea by Julio Fernández with the collaboration of American film
maker Brian Yuzna. It is an original label which FILMAX is seeking to develop in all
aspects of the cinematographic industry, employing, from its inception, the help of
leading professionals from the sector and genre on an international level.
In addition, Fantastic Factory has launched Fantastic Discovery, which has been
investing in new talents. Paco Plaza´s début film Second Name, Laura Maña´s Compassion
Sex, Miguel Alcantud´s Impulse or presenting in this market Nacho Cerda´s Bloodline
are films included in this label.
Meanwhile, Filmax Animation took off in 1999 with Goomer which was an outstanding
success and was awarded a Spanish Goya Award for Best Animation Film. This year also,
El Cid, The Leyend went on again to win another Spanish Goya Award. New productions
to be realized at the Bren Entertainment factory included: Donkey-Xote, Nocturna and
P3K Pinocchio.
Filmax TV took its first steps as a television production company in November 2002,
a new business challenge including three great product lines: series, TV Movies and
formats.
The Manolito Gafotas series, a prime time broadcast on Antena 3 network, debuted in
January 2004, beating that day’s audience record with almost five million viewers.
Manolito Gafotas is based on the collection of novels by Elvira Lindo and directed by
Antonio Mercero. It’s a comedy series for the whole family, broadcast weekly in a prime
time slot. In addition, Filmax Television is preparing two other fiction
projects.
In 2003, it co-produced two TV Movies with autonomous networks (FORTA), and plans to
co-produce five other TV Movies in 2004.
In addition, Filmax Television has developed a children’s program set in the multimedia
universe, a program about the Internet and aimed at children from 4 to 10. The objective
of this format is to familiarize small ones with the computer and its multiple uses
in a fun way. This project was developed side by side with one of the Group’s other
companies, Bren Entertainment. It will be broadcast Saturday mornings on the Galician
Television Network.
