THE GOOD NEWS

A film by Helena TABERNA

Synopsis

It is 1936 and the young Father Miguel arrives to his first posting to a small working-class village in the north of Spain. The Francoist military uprising requires him to defend his people in what is considered a “red village”. In his helpless and lonely struggle he finds friendship and support in Margari, a young schoolmistress, whose husband has been killed by the fascists. Based on a true story, the film shows the young priest standing alongside his suffering parishioners and denouncing from the pulpit and before the hierarchy the atrocities being committed in the name of the Gospel and how he risks his own life for his faith.
