The Catalan TV series, THE RED BAND SOCIETY, produced by FILMAX and TV3, came in a close second at this year’s prestigious Prix Europa Awards in Berlin. The awards, now in their 25th year, are one of the most important in Europe and celebrate the best television, radio and online productions of the year.
The series was given a Special Mention in the TV Fiction category at the awards ceremony last Saturday night, after having been announced as runner-up to the BBC’s “Sherlock – A Study in Pink”, which had been the favourite in the run up to the awards.
This latest success further consolidates THE RED BAND SOCIETY as one of the best television productions to come out of Spain in recent years. The series already scooped the award for Best Original Screenplay at the Seoul TV Drama Awards last August and has received nothing but praise since the first season aired on TV3 in January.
The presentation of the series in Berlin met with an overwhelmingly positive response from industry professionals and several European networks have expressed interest in acquiring the rights to the show. Filmax International, the international sales agent, had already sealed deals in Mexico and the USA before the Berlin awards and will no doubt have many more offers on the table after this most recent accolade. A second season is currently in development and due to be broadcast in summer 2012. |
